Forestry GIS (fGIS) (http://www.forestpal.com/fgis.html) is a freeware geospatial data viewer and editor for Windows. It is the only freeware product available for Windows that will open and edit commercial formats of geospatial vector and raster data. Although it was initially created for field and natural resources managers performing precision mapping, fGIS is now being used across all disciplines for general GIS-purpose mapping. This lightweight program offers common GIS functions, including saving and printing custom maps, running searches and queries, creating buffers, and exporting vector and raster data into new files. fGIS can also create new shapefiles, edit attribute tables, and georeference raster files.
